We are looking for researchers to submit proposals to the 2025 MSCA (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions) Postdoctoral Fellowships call:The prospective fellows may carry out one of the following projects or something similar. * Active flow control of blended-wing body using DBD plasma actuators.

  • Mechanisms and control of subcritical boundary-layer transition.
  • Aerodynamics of forward-swept wings with leading-edge undulations.
  • Real-time changes in aerodynamic forces on aircraft wings during icing.

Professor Choi is the host, who is the Professor of Fluid Mechanics in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, UK. He specialises experimental research in turbulent boundary layers, drag reduction and flow control. He has investigated passive drag reduction devices, such as riblets and compliant coatings as well as active devices including spanwise wall oscillations, micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) and electro-magnetic flow control (EMFC). He started plasma flow control research two decades ago by developing innovative plasma actuators, such as plasma vortex generators (VGs), plasma spanwise oscillation and travelling waves and plasma virtual discrete roughness elements. He has also studied early development of turbulent spots, discovering that the hairpin vortex structures were created in a subcritical boundary layer by impulsive disturbances from an orifice. Opposition control of turbulent spots was then carried out to delay transition to turbulence by modifying the flow structure within the turbulent spots. Other research conducted by Professor Choi includes the effect of leading-edge undulations and aircraft icing on the aerodynamic performance of swept wings. Professor Choi is a convenor of the Special Interest Group for Drag Reduction and Flow Control and a member of Scientific Programme Committee of European Research Community on Flow Turbulence and Combustion (ERCOFTAC).Flow Control Laboratory consists of two boundary-layer wind tunnels, two low-speed aerodynamic wind tunnels and an icing wind tunnel. They are equipped with two Dantec time-resolved PIV systems, TSI Phase Doppler Particle Analyser (PDPA), Dantec hot-wire anemometry systems, Kyowa 3-component force balance systems, MEMS floating element shear-stress sensor, 64 channel MPS4264 Scanivalve system, NI cRIO data acquisition system in LabVIEW, smoke and tufts flow visualisation systems, plasma power supplies, Transcan high-resolution 3D scanner and 3D printers.The University of Nottingham is a research-led university in the UK with over 40,000 students, recognised globally for ground-breaking research.
