The  New Talent Unit is a part of the Talent Engagement and Partnerships Team in DHR is a key pillar of our talent acquisition strategy focusing on attracting new talent and young professionals to the organization through our Volunteers, UN Volunteers, Internship & Fellowship programmes as well as other partnerships in both the public and private sectors.

The New Talent unit, in collaboration with other colleagues within DHR and across Regional and Country Offices ensures the development of a workforce that is fit for the current and future challenges faced by the organization. The incumbent will report to the HR Manager and will act as a subject matter expert (SME) inclusive of providing guidance to key stakeholders and partners on all Youth Programmes, inclusive but not limited to:

Implement and promote the UNICEF Internship programme:

  • Maintain guidelines and policies on the internship programme.
  • Respond to queries on internships from interested candidates/hiring offices/interns;
  • Support the development and maintenance of an internship community through periodic career and networking events
  • In liaison with GSSC and SPO identify new processes that would enable DHR to monitor and report on global use of interns, providing management with periodic information updates and recommendations as applicable;
  • Work with the OneHR community and universities to establish partnerships for funded interns with key universities in as diverse a range of countries as possible.
  • Strengthen effective integration of interns to UNICEF e.g. induction, learning and career development opportunities;
  • Prepare and implement a communication plan and tools to increase the knowledge of and promote the use of interns across UNICEF offices;
  • Maintain and update the Internship website pages (Internet and Intranet);
  • Create information products and materials for UNICEF and external audience (including future partner Universities) related to the Internship Programme, including documenting the impact of interns serving with UNICEF.

Coordinate the UN Volunteers program and the implementation of the UNICEF-UNV MOU Action Plan:

  • Coordinate a hub of HR expertise on the employment of UNV’s, by developing global standardized processes, policies and tools in a consistent, simplified and streamlined format.
  • In close collaboration with the UNV NY Office, effectively implement the action plan agreed between the two agencies when the interagency MOU was signed
  • Create and Implement talent programmes using the UNV modality to address diversity and inclusion needs in collaboration with offices and regions.

Implement HR Initiatives related to the Experts on Mission

  • Coordinate a hub of HR expertise on the employment of Experts on Mission and any other HR initiative related to this contract modality, by developing global standardized processes, policies and tools in a consistent, simplified and streamlined format.
  • Negotiate and manage a wide range of partnerships to provide alternative Talent Acquisition solutions to UNICEF including outreach to under represented groups.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on partnerships related to private sector, continue to develop guidelines and procedures on the use of experts on mission from public and private sector entities
  • liasie with legal office and policy on all areas related to development of MOUs including obtaining clearance when necessary.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree in human resources, social sciences, development studies, business administration/management, or equivalent;
  • Two years of professional work experience in human resources, administration, stakeholder engagement, partnership building or another relevant field.
  • Fluency in English (including excellent writing skills). Knowledge of an additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish and Russian) is considered an asset.
