Where you come in:

In this full-time maximum term position based in Port Moresby, you will work closely with the Emergency Preparedness & Response Advisor, Regional Cash Advisor, Pacific Regional Program Operations Director and other key departments, such as Finance, Supply Chain, HR and Safety and Security as well as Save the Children PNG’s provincial field teams. You will play a leading role in the effective scale up and management of Save the Children preparedness and response to increase impact and enable positive change for children.

You will make an impact by:

  • Leading emergency risk monitoring efforts and ensure internal escalation for any potential emergencies.
  • Strengthening emergency preparedness across the country office through emergency preparedness plans, capacity building initiatives and relationship building.
  • Leading the program management of multiple DRR and emergency response programs.
  • Preparing high quality and timely reporting for SC and donors within agreed schedules.
  • Representing SC and building relationships with various external stakeholders including donors, partners and coordination meetings.
  • Supporting Supply Chain team to get local framework agreements in place as part of emergency response preparations.
  • Pro-actively identifying advocacy opportunities, case studies and research opportunities which link with wider organisational strategic objectives, and connect with the Info, Comms and Media team, to turn these into action.

You can work independently, able to multitask, thrive under pressure and able to meet tight deadlines. You have experience working in humanitarian programs in PNG and managing a multi-sector, multi-national team. You can develop effective results driven working partnerships with partners and key stakeholders in diverse sectors and communities.

This role requires:

  • Education to BSc/BA level in a relevant subject such as: Emergency Management, Public Health, Disaster relief services, International Relations, Education, Social Sciences.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ work experience – preferably in an NGO environment and with progressively more responsible positions in humanitarian roles.
  • Excellent knowledge of humanitarian principles and standards, and thorough understanding of key concepts in humanitarian action. Excellent understanding of humanitarian funding and coordination mechanisms.
  • Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels and with a range of stakeholders (e.g., communities, government, donors). Proven external coordination and representation skills at a senior level.
  • Prior experience in assessment, design, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation systems, and implementation of humanitarian programming across multiple locations and with a multi-sector, multi-national team.
