The Animal Care Technician I provides for the daily care of rodent species in standard and specialized husbandry settings. This includes performing regularly scheduled cage changing in conventional and high density barrier housing areas, observing animals for abnormalities and maintaining adequate food and water supplies in enclosures.
Job Responsibilities.
- Execute assigned animal husbandry tasks with guidance (e.g., maintenance of animal holding & procedure rooms; routine sanitation; food and water supply & drug dosing management; scheduled cage changing).
- Perform routine techniques on animals (e.g., treatments, formalin fixation) as per defined guidelines.
- Assist in veterinary treatments on research models, special observations, and other study-directed requests.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records as required.
- Escalate issues and problems according to set standards and SOPs.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
- High School Diploma/GED required.
Minimum Experience:
- Experience in animal care or veterinary facility or animal husbandry related field preferred.
- Some experience with disinfection, sterilization, sanitation, and environmental microbiological analysis preferred.
- Some experience with changes in animal health conditions preferred.
- Some experience operating animal caging and sanitation equipment preferred.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:
- Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) – American Association for Laboratory Animal Science within 18 months
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $20.00 – $34.00 per hour for the role of Husbandry Technician I.
