The “Improving Community Disaster Reduction Response (DRR) in Homs and Aleppo” project is a key component of the Integrated Post-Earthquake and Early Recovery Project initiated by UN-Habitat following the devastating earthquake in February 2023. The project aims to strengthen urban community-based resilience in three neighborhoods in Homs and four neighborhoods across four Directorates in Aleppo. Its primary objective is to enhance the preparedness of these communities to effectively respond to potential disasters they may face. This initiative is part of a broader integrated approach to recovery led by UN-Habitat-Syria.

The selected Implementing Partner (IP) will be responsible for organizing a team of volunteers and providing them with training to become trainers in Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) to train other groups of volunteers on neighborhoods’ level. Additionally, the IP will oversee the conduct of Hazard Vulnerability Risk Assessments, develop disaster risk management plans for each neighborhood, and lead awareness campaigns on DRR. A participatory and community-based approach will be adopted, with the IP working closely with relevant stakeholders, Directorates’ staff, and Municipalities in Homs and Aleppo. All work and training materials will be shared with UN-Habitat, and site selection will align with UN-Habitat’s recovery plans while strictly adhering to project deadlines.
