Do you enjoy using science to drive change in the world?Would you like to develop and launch an online-only gold open access journal for The Lancet.About our Team:The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology, & Women’s Health will be the latest addition to The Lancet’s family of world-renowned medical journals committed to publishing the best science for better lives. The team will handle high quality research, reviews, and commentaries to drive thought leadership across all aspects of Obstetrics, Gynaecology, & Women’s Health. They will build solid relationships with research communities to ensure we offer, exciting, interesting and thought-provoking content.About the Role:As an in-house Editor-in-Chief, you are a subject expert who will oversee the creation and publication of original material for our journal. You will take ownership of submissions and oversee quality peer review to ensure we publish high-quality content. You will build global relationships with experts in the community to attract and disseminate practice-changing work from the field.At the Lancet we are deeply committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment. - Developing and launching an online-only gold open access journal
- Managing the day-to-day editorial handling of papers and peer-review and drive the editorial strategy of The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology, & Women’s Health
- Direct line management of two Senior Editors
- Developing and maintaining relationships with our global obstetrics, gynaecology, & women’s health communities to attract high-quality research for the journal
- Attending conferences and events to represent the journal, keeping up to date with current developments in obstetrics, gynaecology, & women’s health and identifying potential topics of interest
- Writing editorials and other content for the journal as required
- Helping develop new initiatives for future development of the journal
- Participate in projects across The Lancet Group and, on occasion, with Elsevier and RELX
Requirements:
- A Medical Degree in a relevant discipline or a PhD in a related subject field with postdoctoral research experience
- Extensive editorial experience, at Editor or other senior level, with a good understanding of all aspects of the editorial process, journal production, and of running an editorial team
- Be able to demonstrate thorough knowledge of biological and medical sciences, and broader social issues pertaining to obstetrics, gynaecology, & women’s health
- The ability to engage, influence and build relationships with external stakeholders, including medical and research professionals, a range of internal teams, and members of the media
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work efficiently to demanding press deadlines
- Excellent command of the English language and the ability to write in an engaging and interesting manner
- Proficient with IT systems including MS Office
