Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Position in Indigenous Education
The Department of Curriculum Studies, College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, commencing July 1, 2025. This position focuses on teacher education, with a particular emphasis on Indigenous education, Truth and Reconciliation initiatives in education, and Indigenous language reclamation. This role supports our commitment to fostering innovation, reconciliation, and excellence in educational preparation for diverse, contemporary learning environments.
This position is seeking an Indigenous scholar from Turtle Island that can work within local communities. Verification of Indigenous Membership/Citizenship at the University of Saskatchewan is led and determined by the deybwewin taapwaywin tapwewin: Indigenous Truth policy and Standing Committee in accordance with the processes developed to enact the policy. Successful candidates that assert Indigenous membership/citizenship will be asked to complete the verification process of Indigenous membership/citizenship with documentation.
As a key member of a dynamic and collegial department, the successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in Indigenous education, as well as curriculum development in line with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education’s curricular priorities. Expertise in a specific curricular area (e.g., science, language arts, or social studies) is an asset.
Qualifications:
• An earned doctorate or doctoral candidates near completion of their degree program in Indigenous education or a related field.
• Expertise and experience in Indigenous language reclamation and in addressing Truth and Reconciliation in educational contexts.
• A demonstrated commitment to social justice and anti-racist pedagogies.
• Relevant teaching experience at the pre-K to 12 and/or post-secondary level is required (preference will be given to candidates with pre-K – 12 teaching experience).
• A strong research agenda with potential for external funding success, aligned with Indigenous education, Indigenous knowledge systems, and reconciliation initiatives.
• A commitment to working collaboratively with Indigenous communities and incorporating Indigenous worldviews in research and teaching practices.
Responsibilities:
1. Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, with a focus on Indigenous education, Truth and Reconciliation in the Canadian educational context, and related curricular methods.
2. Engaging with Indigenous communities and fostering partnerships to advance community-based educational initiatives.
3. Maintaining an active research program that contributes to scholarship in Indigenous education and reconciliation.
4. Seeking external funding to support research and creative projects.
5. Advising and mentoring graduate students.
The successful candidate will join a department with a rich history of supporting Indigenous education and contribute to the Department’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation and collaboration with Indigenous communities. The Department of Curriculum Studies: The Department plays a vital role in teacher preparation, offering a significant portion of the College’s undergraduate methods courses and supporting a robust college-wide graduate program with approximately 1,000 students enrolled. Salary bands for this position are as follows: Assistant Professor Scale: $107,323 to $128,131, plus a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, pension, academic long-term disability, and professional expense allowances.
