Information Management Specialist

How can you make a difference? 

The postholder’s main tasks and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Coordination and partnerships

  • Map existing development cooperation to Jordan, including the UN, bilateral and other multilateral partners, visualize it in a meaningful way to be consumed by development partners.
  • Engage with counterparts within the international community to ensure that information activities are coordinated and consistent with national standards and practices.
  • Actively engage with other IMs through relevant Information Management Working Groups (IMWGs), including participating in information management networks, as relevant.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with information management counterparts among international partners in Jordan.
  • Promote harmonized and coordinated approaches to IM across partners, Working Groups and the Government, as appropriate.

IM function management

  • Consolidate information about development cooperation in the country on a regular schedule to support analysis.
  • Conduct data processing including organizing, cleaning, triangulating, evaluating and validating the data.
  • Implement or support regular secondary data reviews and primary data collection including designing questionnaires using appropriate tools, if/as needed.
  • Analyse data to meet identified information needs of stakeholders.
  • Create accurate, quality, and timely information products that are in line with provided guidance.
  • Disseminate data and information products through appropriate channels.
  • Maintain and ensure the accessibility of a common and shared secure storage system,
  • Gather feedback on IM products and use it to make improvements.
  • Design, develop and manage databases, spreadsheets, and other data tools. Ensure the quality of such data for accuracy, consistency, and comparability.
  • Using Geographic information systems, produce and update high-quality map products and online services. Maintain a repository of spatial data and ensure that the data is documented and accessible to all development partners through local and/or online services.

 Analysis

  • Support assessment and needs analysis activities, including the country analyses , and any other relevant analysis, as required, and secondary data reviews.
  • Manage platforms and tools that support data collection and analysis, as required.
  • Produce and update information products such as infographics, reports, and charts by turning data into graphical products to convey messages and a storyline; develop advocacy materials including posters, presentations, and other visual materials, in close collaboration with the communication team.
  • Compare and align joint needs analysis findings with other Working Groups and participate in developing reports.

Strategic planning

  • Design and implement partner presence mapping.
  • Contribute to strategic planning of the UN and of the Development Partners’ Group, by supporting evidence-based prioritization and formulation of forward-looking strategies.
  • Strengthen IM capacity within the UN and among partners towards more coherent and complementary IM platforms and information, in close cooperation with the Government.

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: Information Management or Information Systems, GIS Information Technologies, Computer Science, Statistics, Social Sciences or another subject area relevant to Information/Data Management. Formal training in Information Management is considered an advantage.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in information management, data management, geographical information systems, assessments, situation analysis and/or PM&E with the UN and/or NGO is required. Experience demonstrating very strong information management skills in a professional context is essential for this post. Experience managing information in the field is required. *Extensive work experience outside the humanitarian sector which is relevant to this post may be considered in lieu of humanitarian experience. Such experience should elicit demonstrated ability to adapt to change, working under pressure & unusual circumstances such as missing data/gaps.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish), especially the language of the local context is considered an asset.
