INSO Background

Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental organisation that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training.

INSO provides daily support to more than 1,200 NGOs operating in 17 of the world’s most insecure countries. INSO is registered in the Netherlands, with its headquarters based in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.

Job Summary

As the Information Manager, you will help address the safety and access analysis needs of NGOs by maintaining the Analysis & Research Team’s (ART) internal system for global data collation as well as develop high-quality data visualisation products. You will have a good understanding of spatial data, graphic design tools and information management to leverage the data from the Conflict & Humanitarian Data Centre. This position is based at our Headquarters in The Hague and reports to the Director of Analysis & Research Team.

Major Responsibilities

  • Manage internal data integration, collation and categorisation processes for global analysis products.
  • Provide and produce maps and other visualisations for global analysis products.
  • Develop templates and format of global analysis products using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Microsoft Sway and Power BI.
  • Identify, document and inform Technology & Innovation Team (DTI) of substantial in-country data discrepancies or inconsistencies identified during the production of global analysis products.
  • Coordinate with country programmes in the design, development and production of tailored, comparative and thematic analyses.
  • Identify and integrate innovative developments in data visualisation and analysis to enhance the quality of INSO’s products, especially for thematic research projects.
  • Cultivate a positive working relationships with INSO’s Information Managers across field platforms.
  • Offer ad-hoc assistance to the Policy, Advocacy & Communications Team (PAC) in gathering and illustrating evidence-based products.
  • Engage with the Senior Information Manager on matters relating to technical advice, global standards and internal synergies.
  • Promote and maintain a clear, consistent and logical structure for internal documentation related to the ART.
  • Subscribe and contribute to maintaining and promoting the integrity, reliability and consistency of INSO’s data.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Fluency in English (required).
  • Right to live and work in the Netherlands.
  • Bachelors degree in (Spatial) Data Science, Information Management, GIS or relevant field.
  • Technical proficiency in GIS software, such as ArcGIS; presentation and design tools, particularly Adobe InDesign and Illustrator; data visualisation tools, specifically Power BI; and advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Minimum 4 years work experience.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to tight deadlines.

Desirable

  • Experience with ArcGIS scripting.
  • Experience Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) language.
  • Familiarity with Code/script writing.
  • Familiarity with SQL, including creating queries and manipulating data.
  • Relevant experience working in NGOs, international organisations, think-tanks or research consultancies.
  • Masters degree in (Spatial) Data Science, Information Management, GIS or relevant field.
  • Pre-existing experience with conflict or crime datasets.
  • Experience in security incident mapping.

Terms & Conditions

12-month full-time fixed-term contract (renewable) based in The Hague, Netherlands. It is a Dutch contract based on the Dutch social security and taxation rules with a €4,800 per month gross salary + 8% vacation pay (vakantiegeld) and 2.5 days annual leave accrued per month. We provide Basic Premium ONVZ health insurance in the Netherlands and travel insurance when travelling for work. A relocation allowance is available. The right to live and work in the Netherlands is required for this position.
