Instructor, Political Science (Part-time, non-tenure track)

Position description

The Department of Political Science at Ohio University seeks to fill a part-time, non-tenure track, non-benefits eligible Instructor of Practice position at our Athens campus for Spring 2025. The successful candidate will teach a 1-credit hour practicum course for political science students that emphasizes career planning and networking in the United States. We invite applications from candidates who have ten or more years of professional experience working in a political science-aligned field such as elections and campaigns, government or government relations, public relations, or policy analysis, among others. Preference will be given to professional experience that does not require a JD degree.

The successful candidate should demonstrate an ability to develop course learning outcomes, a syllabus, a list of potential guest speakers, and weekly lesson plans for a one-hour weekly practicum course for political science students at Ohio University. Applicants should further demonstrate a desire and ability to prepare students for professional success through in-person practical instruction, the development of and preparation for networking opportunities, and connecting students’ classroom experience to practical and ethical issues that arise in the candidate’s professional field.

The candidate should have at least a bachelor’s degree in political science or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates who hold a graduate degree (MA or higher) in political science or a closely related field.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in political science or a closely related field. 10 years professional experience working in a political science-aligned field.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate degree (MA or higher) in political science or a closely related field. Professional experience that does not require a JD degree.
