Duties and Responsibilities
Several internship positions are open in the Civil Society Unit (CSU), Office of the Director (OD), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna, Austria. The first internship will start in November 2024. All internships are for a period of four (4) to six (6) months subject to the needs of the office and the availability of the interns. The internship is UNPAID and full time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned. For more information about the CSU, please visit www.unodc.org/unodc/en/ngos/cst.html The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to: • Contribute to the implementation of Programme GLOU68 “Engagement with Non-Governmental Stakeholders on Anti-Corruption, Drugs and Crime Prevention”, by participating in the various aspects of the projects’ cycles, including drafting concept notes, funding proposals, implementation and reporting; • Attend and take notes at events/meetings/conferences; • Assist in the preparation of the CSU activities and events; • Conduct research; • Perform other tasks as necessary.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: •Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); • Be computer literate in standard software applications • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the position advertised, fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency, is required. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desirable.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
