Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the Director-General of UNON is the representative of the Secretary-General in Kenya. UNON supports programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Resident Coordination System (RCS) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, security, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This internship is based in the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), Division of Administrative Services (DAS), Information and Communication Technology Service (ICTS), Information Security. The incumbent will report to the supervisor of the Information Security team. Responsibilities • Assist in installation of applications and OS (Operating System) • Assist in configuring and setting up new computers. • Assist in migrating computers to Azure AD. • Assist in creation of end-user Guidelines and SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) • Assist in troubleshooting and providing IT support to end-users. • Assist in basic wireless and wired network troubleshooting. • Assist in scanning and removal of malware infections from computers. • Assist in conducting applications and OS updates/upgrade lab tests. • Assist in deployment of software updates. • Assist in computer image capture for forensic analysis. • Assist in provision of network administration services. • Pa ticipate in monitoring the health of the overall network, reporting problems and incidents as necessary. • Participate in the configuration and installation of Network Architecture. • Thoroughly test all changes prior to implementation. • Assist to prepare network schematics/diagrams and documentation. • Assist in server Installation and setup. • Assist in maintenance of server equipment in control rooms. • Assist in maintenance of data centre equipment including hardware and software. • Assist in configuration of environmental monitoring devices. • Providing level 1 support to IMS servers and Network team. • Assist in network cabling (Fibre and Ethernet) installation and maintenance. • Assist in physical movement of ICT equipment. • Effectively communicate with site supervisors on any issues that require intervention.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate school programme in information and communication technology or related area; (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of degree programme in information and communication technology or related area; or (c) if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least three years of fulltime studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an information and communication technology degree or related degree. Preferred area of study: undergraduate studies in Information Technology (minimum 4th year) Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
