Duties and Responsibilities
This internship is located in the Triangular Partnership Programme (TPP) in the Support Partnerships Service (SPS), the Division for Special Activities (DSA) in the Department of Operational Support (DOS) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The mission of the United Nations Department of Operational Support (DOS) is to provide operational advisory services to operating entities across the Secretariat, including other departments, offices-away-from headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions. DSA oversees a range of specialized or cross-cutting operational capacities. A large part of its responsibilities is to support start-up, surge, and transition requirements and to exercise authority on behalf of entities to which authority has not been granted, owing to a lack of capacity, or from which authority has been temporarily withdrawn. SPS coordinates and maintains bilateral and trilateral relationships with key partners, such as regional organizations, other United Nations actors and governments, for the receipt or provision of operational support from or to Secretariat entities. TPP is one of the outcomes of the September 2014 Summit on UN Peacekeeping and aims to enhance the Enabling Capabilities for peacekeeping. TPP comprises the United Nations supporting Member States and Troop­ Contributing Countries (TCCs). The Intern reports to the Programme Officer. The internship is for a period of six months and may be shortened to less than six months depending on the Programme’s circumstances. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Our interns work as members of our team in the TPP/SPS/DSA; pursue projects that are designed to make a significant difference in DOS and have opportunities to learn about the United Nations overall. Responsibilities: Under the general guidance of professional staff of the Triangular Partnership Programme (TPP), the intern will support information management, meeting support, reporting and coordination support in one of the following areas. Knowledge Management: • Assist in the organization of substantive materials related to the work of TPP in support of TPP engagements. • Assist in the collection and consolidation of information related to the development and outcomes of TPP trainings. • Assist in the preparation of briefing information on the work of TPP. • Provide assistance in the design and development of products in support of TPP’s high level engagement. • Develop and maintain records of meetings, action items, background materials for TPP meetings and other high-level engagements. Planning and Coordination: • Support for the planning and coordination of TPP Engineering and Medical trainings in multiple locations. • Support to the coordination of TPP meetings. • Support to the preparation of background documents, monitoring and note taking. • Other coordination support as deemed appropriate by the supervisor. Research support: • Provide research support for background/information materials in support of high-level engagements of TPP Team. • Other research support as deemed appropriate by the supervisor. Operations and Administrative support: • Support the drafting and editing of relevant correspondence. • Support the day-to-day management and activities of the team. • Support the team in preparing data, data models and surveys. • Support the public relations activities of TPP, including social media, Factsheet, and article writing. • Schedule and search for venue for internal meetings and with stakeholders, as required. • Other ad-hoc related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
1) Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent); 2) The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship you are applying for; Good knowledge of standard software applications, specifically MS Excel, PowerPoint and Canva if required/desirable. Ability to draft news articles and social media posts is required/desirable. The internship should benefit your future career. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Visa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant (such as F1 visa) status, will be required to obtain a G4 visa. Interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization (CPT/OPT), allowing them to undertake the internship. Applicants must have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideas of the Charter and backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of different opinions and views. Terms of the internship programme: – The duration is for a period of six months and may be shortened to three months depending on the circumstances. -Interns are expected to work on a full-time basis in the entity that has selected them, under the supervision of a staff member at an appropriate level. The working hours will be discussed with your supervisor at the time of the interview. Internships may be undertaken on the basis of flexible working arrangements if: -The receiving entity agrees in writing to accept an intern on the basis of flexible working arrangements. -Interns agree that they are required to work the equivalent of a minimum of at least two months on a full-time basis or four months on a part-time basis in order to receive recognition of service as an intern.
