General context of the project

INTERSOS is a humanitarian organisation that works all over the world bringing assistance to people in danger, victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. With its humanitarian operators, INTERSOS intervenes to timely and effectively meet the needs of people in crisis, with particular attention to vulnerable groups, such as women and children. It provides first aid, food, shelter, medical assistance and basic goods. It ensures that basic needs, such as access to health, clean water, and education, are met. Over the years, INTERSOS has developed activities in multiple sectors, such as health care, protection and assistance, warehousing and distribution of essential goods, shelter, water and sanitation, psychosocial support and education.

In this context, the Director General coordinates and manages INTERSOS’ Departments and Units in order to fulfil the organisation’s objectives, while keeping the humanitarian principles at the forefront of its activities.

The Intern will actively support the work of the Director General, and thus that of the organisation, in the production of the INTERSOS Strategic Plan (ISP) 2026-2029 and the INTERSOS Humanitarian Enterprise Framework (IHEF).

General purpose of the position

Actively participating and contributing in the drafting sessions of the ISP 2026-29 and of the IHEF will provide the intern with a practical understanding of how the humanitarian organisation operates and the factors that influence long-term strategic planning. Furthermore, collaborating with the Director General on the preparation of essential documentation will provide the intern with gained skills in strategic planning, and a firsthand view of the functioning of various organisational departments and units.

Main responsibilities and tasks:

The intern will support the DG in the production process of ISP 2026-29 and the IHEF by

  • Proof-reading, correcting and harmonising the documents of the departments/units and missions in order to ensure the production of a compliant result;
  • Following up the compliance with the set deadlines of the process;
  • Sharing of relevant documents and surveys with the missions and the HQ departments, collecting surveys results;
  • Participating in meetings on the above-mentioned topics, take minutes and share them with the relevant staff;
  • Liaising with the staff involved in the process and ensuring effective internal communication.

Required profile and experience

Education

  • Ongoing Master degree in Political Science/International Cooperation or similar field

Professional Experience

  • Previous volunteering and/or internship experiences in non-profit organisations will be evaluated positively.

Professional Requirements

  • Good writing abilities, competent in drafting and structuring complex texts

Languages

  • Excellent level of Italian and English are compulsory.
  • French is an asset.
