School of Healthcare SciencesWe are looking for a highly motivated Research Assistant to join Dr Catherine Purcell, Professor Kate Wilmut (Oxford Brookes University) and the research priorities for Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) in the UK team in the School of Healthcare Sciences at Cardiff University.You will be working alongside experts in priority setting from the James Lind Alliance and people with living experience of DCD to support the development of the Top 10 DCD research priorities for the UK.In this role, you will:

  • Work with the Steering Group to develop Terms of Reference, maintain communication with the Steering Group, obtain Cardiff University ethical approval and manage protocols and meetings.
  • Co-create and distribute an online survey with a market research company, conduct interviews and discussion groups, review and interpret data to form research-relevant questions and work with information specialists for evidence-checking.
  • Conduct a face-to-face consensus-building workshop to identify top research priorities, support the publication and promotion of these priorities and contribute to research publications, funding bids and presentations.

The PSP will follow the James Lind Alliance (JLA) structured approach to identify and prioritise the most important research questions identified by key stakeholders.MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop Terms of Reference and maintain communication with the Steering Group, including coordinating meetings and payment (where applicable).
  • Develop a protocol, obtain Cardiff University ethical approval and submit a Readiness Questionnaire to the JLA.
  • Co-create an online survey to generate evidence uncertainties, working with a market research company and the Stakeholder Group for distribution.
  • Conduct interviews and/or discussion groups to generate evidence uncertainties.
  • Review, interpret, categorise and transform data from the survey and interviews and/or discission groups into research-relevant questions.
  • Work with an information specialist to evidence-check indicative questions utilising the JLA Question Verification Form.
  • Co-create an online survey and conduct interviews and/or discission groups as mechanisms to review the longlist of indicative research questions.
  • Co-deliver a face-to-face consensus-building workshop in Cardiff to identify the Top 10 research priorities.
  • Support the publication and promotion of the Top 10 research priorities.
  • Actively participate within the research group, communicating and presenting updates at meetings, through publications and other recognised avenues as appropriate, ensuring information is communicated to internal and external partners.
  • Contribute to and support research publications, infographics and presentations as required.
  • Contribute to and support research funding bids as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience * Knowledge of research methods and techniques within Developmental Coordination Disorder.

  • Experience of survey and qualitative methodology.
  • Proven ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative data and summarise appropriately.
  • Ability to demonstrate the capability and drive to succeed in securing research funding.
  • Proven ability to use common software packages. For example Word, Excel, NVivo, SPS.

Communication and Team Working * Proven communication skills, including presentation to various audiences.

  • Excellent organisational and team-working skills.

Other * Proven ability to demonstrate creativity, innovation and teamworking in a workplace environnement.

  • Proven ability to work without close supervision.

Desirable Criteria * Postgraduate degree at PhD level (or nearing completion / submission) in a related subject area and / or previous research assistant experience / or experience with empirical data collection.

  • Proven ability to adapt to the changing requirements of the Higher Education community.
