School of History, Archaeology and ReligionAn exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate in Isotope Analysis to join the School of History, Archaeology and Religion. This role will be responsible in conducting research in multi- isotope analysis, working on Roman period human remains to contribute to the holistic study of mobility in Britannia as part of the AHRC funded Roman Britannia: Mobility and Society (RoBMobS) project team and contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University, carrying out research leading to the publishing of high-quality research meeting the project’s aims as required by the project lead. • To contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University through conducting research in Roman archaeology to achieve the measurable outputs of the RoBMobS project including publishing in academic journals.
• To undertake administrative tasks associated with the research project, including, but not limited to destructive sampling applications and liaising with project partner organisations in commercial archaeology to arrange sampling visits.
• To prepare bone, dentine and enamel samples for multi-isotope analysis (strontium, oxygen, sulfur, carbon and nitrogen) on Roman period human remains from Britain.
• To assist with mass spectrometry
• To undertake data management, analysis and curation tasks.
• To review and synthesise existing research literature within the field
• To contribute to archaeological reports on sampled assemblages for stakeholders.
• To attend and or present at conferences/seminars at regional, national and international levels, and participate in School research activities.

Other

• To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. These activities are expected to contribute to the School and the enhancement of its regional and national profile.
