College of Biomedical and Life SciencesThe Division of Infection and Immunity is inviting applications for a Technician Grade 4 position available within a research laboratory investigating immune responses to acute infections. Based on the Heath Park Campus, the post-holder will be a member of the Eberl group at the Systems Immunity Research Institute, in close collaboration with Prof Jared Torkington at the University Hospital of Wales and colleagues at the Division of Population Medicine and Siemens Healthineers.The post is funded by Health & Care Research Wales and will focus on studying cellular and soluble biomarkers in the drain fluid of patients undergoing colorectal surgery, and understanding how these may be used to predicting infectious post-operative complications. The role will involve a number of techniques including isolation and cryopreservation of immune cells from patient samples, multiplex ELISA techniques, and multicolour flow cytometry. Candidates should have practical experience in relevant techniques, laboratory housekeeping and maintaining records under the Human Tissue Act.For further information candidates should contact Professor Matthias Eberl (eberlm@cf.ac.uk).This position is full time (35 hours per week), on occasion requiring flexibility with regards to working hours, e.g. starting earlier or staying longer in the evening; providing out of hours support on a rota basis for emergencies. The post is available immediately and fixed term until 31st December 2025.Salary: £26,444 – £29,605 per annum (Grade 4). 2. Substantial experience of working as a laboratory technician.
3. Specialist knowledge and experience of using laboratory equipment, reagents and human samples.
4. Ability to set up and apply experimental protocols and procedures, and recommend improvements as appropriate.
5. Experience in experimental methods needed to investigate immune responses in patient samples.Research support, Communication and Team Working
6. Ability to communicate and present relevant information effectively and professionally to line managers, team members and collaborators.
