College of Biomedical and Life SciencesA Research Associate position funded by the National Institute of Health is available in the research group of Professor Richard Stanton, in the Division of Infection and Immunity at Cardiff University School of Medicine, based at Heath Park Cardiff. This role will involve examining the capacity of non-neutralising antibodies to control virus infection through activities such as antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis (ADCP). Our major focus is on human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), we also have interests in SARS-CoV-2. Our long-term aim is to build successful antiviral vaccines and monoclonal antibody-based immunotherapies. The lab is well funded by the Medical Research Council, National institute of Health, Biomedical and Biotechnology Research Council, and Wellcome Trust, and regularly publishes high impact research.We are seeking a new addition to the team with a PhD or equivalent qualification (or nearing completion/submission) in a related subject area or relevant industrial experience. The work covers a wide variety of research areas, including molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology, virology, cell biology, and immunology. The successful candidate will have significant experience in one or more of these areas. They must show a willingness to develop skills and to help supervise a team of postgraduate students, undergraduate students, and research staff. To pursue excellence in research and to inspire others to do the same.Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesResearch

• To conduct research within Viral Immunology and contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University by the production of measurable outputs including bidding for funding, publishing in national academic journals and conferences, and the recruitment and supervision of postgraduate research students.
• To develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research including research funding proposals
• To attend and or present at conferences/seminars at a local and national level as required
• To undertake administrative tasks associated with the research project, including the planning and organisation of the project and the implementation of procedures required to ensure accurate and timely reporting
• To prepare research ethics and research governance applications as appropriate
• To review and synthesise existing research literature within the field
• To participate in School research activities.
• To build and create networks both internally and externally to the university, to influence decisions explore future research requirements, and share research ideas for the benefit of research projects

• To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. i. Virology, particularly large DNA viruses

4. Proven ability to publish in national top ranked journals or conferences
