International Markets and Collaboration Lead Consultant, Forest Governance

Position description

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

International Engagement:

      • Contribute to Liberia’s engagement in international processes that incentivise forest governance in country;
      • Represent the project in global forums such as the BMRC, Climate COPs, and other relevant platforms;
      • Coordinate contributions to international dialogues on forest governance and climate-linked trade;
      • Develop briefing materials and policy inputs to support Liberia’s international positioning;
      • Support exchanges between key market players in Liberia and Liberian forest sector stakeholders to understand the market.

Market Analysis and Strategy:

      • Conduct and commission market analyses to identify key and emerging markets for Liberia’s forest products;
      • Provide strategic advice on trade opportunities and barriers;
      • Support the development of market entry strategies aligned with governance reforms.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

      • Facilitate multistakeholder deliberative processes between Liberian stakeholders and international market actors;
      • Organise trade missions, roundtables, and bilateral meetings to promote mutual understanding;
      • Build partnerships with trade bodies, certification schemes, and private sector actors.

Reporting and Knowledge Sharing:

      • Produce reports and policy briefs on market trends and Liberia’s trade positioning to support the MEL Manager;
      • Share insights with government, civil society, and private sector stakeholders;
      • Contribute to project monitoring and evaluation through documentation of engagement outcomes.

Essential Criteria:

      • Extensive experience in international trade, market analysis, or policy engagement;
      • Strong understanding of national and international forest governance, climate policy, and trade mechanisms;
      • Strong understanding of the key players in Liberia and internationally in forest governance;
      • Proven experience working with international institutions and market actors;
      • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills;
      • Familiarity with voluntary partnership agreements (VPAs), REDD+, or similar frameworks is desirable.
