The work of the ILO in Cambodia is structured around the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP), which provides the basis for the ILO’s contribution to national development priorities in line with Cambodia Sustainable Development Goals (CSDGs) and the national development framework, and reflects the ILO’s commitment to the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).
In Cambodia, under the current UNDAF, the ILO is currently implementing three projects on social protection. Its mandate is to provide policy advisory services and technical assistance to the Royal Government and social partners to advance social protection and promote decent work in Cambodia. Its work is guided by a rights-based approach that stems from internationally agreed standards and principles.
ILO’s social protection activities are implemented in support of the National Social Protection Policy Framework 2016-25, and in close collaboration with key national partners, including the General Secretariat of the National Social Protection Council, National Social Security Fund, other relevant ministries and social partners.
The Social Protection Intern will be fully integrated in the work of the Social Protection Programme in Cambodia, contributing to the outputs and activities foreseen in its workplan. As such, the Intern will be working as part of the social protection project team consisting of international and national experts and will be supporting the technical implementation of the projects and assist in research, communication and knowledge development and sharing. Specifically, the intern will perform the following tasks:
- Assist in the development of training material and capacity building activities targeting the officials of the Royal Government of Cambodia in the areas related to the extension of Social Protection
- Assist in translating of documents in Khmer and English and interpreting in informal/small meetings.
- Support the drafting of briefs, communication materials, and reports related to social protection issues in Cambodia
- Support communication activities on social protection (e.g. updating website, drafting of brochures, fact sheets etc)
- Assist in organizing and participate in workshops and seminars and prepare reports, training materials and presentations.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- The projects and topics will be agreed with the intern depending on their interests, experience and the prevailing issues during the time of the internship.
- The Social Protection Intern will directly report to the Programme Manager for Social Protection projects based in ILO-Joint Project Office in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The Intern will work in coordination with international and national project staff involved in the implementation of the projects.
Required profile
Education:
- The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 years ago, in a field related to the internship tasks such as Economics, international laws, international relations and political sciences, social protection, media and communication and any other relevant field.
Experience:
- Proven ability to use word processing software and email as well as ability to use other software packages required by the Office.
Languages:
- Excellent knowledge of English and Khmer both written and verbal.
