Position description

We are pleased to offer an outstanding and substantive internship program for the nation’s best and brightest young leaders.

At the Chamber, you will obtain a hands-on, meaningful work experience designed to meet your academic and career goals. Our internships offer opportunities in research, writing, database management, policy, communications, and event preparation.

 

During the internship, you will network with colleagues and senior-level executives while participating in educational and professional activities designed to enhance your internship experience. 

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

 

The Chamber Internship Program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn at the world’s largest business organization. In addition to directly supporting a team in the organization, interns have an opportunity to participate in a variety of programming that will help build professional skills and networks.

 

Daily responsibilities for interns typically include research, drafting memos or content, and event planning and support. Specific responsibilities vary by department and semester.

The Chamber also offers programming each semester intended to provide professional development and networking opportunities for interns. In previous semesters, this has included a resume workshop, professional panel with Chamber experts, leadership luncheons, and more.

This internship is scheduled to run from the week of June 2nd to the week of August 4th. This is a hybrid internship, with the in-person component being at our U.S. Chamber of Commerce HQ in downtown Washington, DC. Interns are expected to be in office at least two days a week. Fully remote applicants will not be considered.

 

This is a paid internship, where students may also receive academic credit if they meet the criteria set by their school. The hourly rate for this position is between $17.50 – $18.00 per hour. This hourly rate depends on the candidate’s education level.

  • Intern Orientation – Get to know more about the Chamber and connect with other interns in the program.
  • Resume Workshop – Learn how to craft a standout resume and cover letter for your career next steps.
  • Internship Speaker Series- Learn from senior level leaders at the Chamber about their career journey and how their teams impact the greater work at the Chamber.
  • Networking Events – Connect with managers and senior leadership from across the Chamber as they share tips and tricks learned throughout their careers.
  • Intern Farewell – Celebrate and reflect on your achievements in the program with other interns from the program.

 

DEPARTMENT MATCHING

The Chamber has more than 40 departments that cover multiple career fields. After you submit your resume, it will be reviewed by one of our recruiters and if your skills match what we are looking for, the relevant department will reach out for an interview.

The International Affairs Division of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce leads the business community’s efforts to shape global policy.

The regions below all host interns:        

 

The Strategic Advocacy (SA) Division is responsible for managing the Chamber’s policy priorities and creating data-driven resources to bolster policy initiatives. The SA interns will contribute to our workforce data centers, engage with ongoing policy priority projects, and provide support for various additional assignments. 

 

  • Communications

The Communications Division positions and promotes the Chamber, its policy priorities, agenda, and brand to our various constituencies. We have multiple internships within our Communications teams, with tasks related to social media, internal communications, and drafting and editing press releases.

  

  • Member Relations & Corporate Research

The Chamber’s Member Relations team serves as a bridge between the organization and its members, both current and prospective, leading member engagement and growth across all Chamber programs.

 

The purpose of the U.S. Chamber’s Global Energy Institute is to unify energy stakeholders and policymakers behind a common strategy to ensure that America’s supply of fuel and power is adequate, stable, and affordable, while protecting national security, and improving the environment.

  

  • Executive Office

The Executive Office is Command Central for the U.S. Chamber’s activities, this team strategically supports the CEO, other top executives, and the board of directors.

 

The Federation Relations and Coalition Partnerships division manages relationships with state and local chambers of commerce, trade associations and small businesses and has a membership presence in every state across the country.

  

The National Security Policy division advocates on behalf of the Chamber’s members who have a direct stake in cybersecurity, defense, space, and supply chain security policy.

 

We promote the use of government-to-government regulatory cooperation initiatives and the implementation of Good Regulatory Practices (GRPs) between foreign governments.

 

  • Information Technology

The Information Technology team empowers all other U.S. Chamber teams to thrive. They provide technologies and technology training to employees and help them use these technologies to perform well in their jobs. These technologies range from standard computing platforms to more advanced applications of data and generative AI capabilities.

 

Institute for Organization Management is a professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for association and chamber executives. With courses on topics such as advocacy, media training, membership, finance, legal issues, human resources, and much more, Institute educates on all facets of running a nonprofit organization. Upon completion of four sites, graduates receive their IOM Recognition, signifying completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management.

 

The Global Initiatives & International Policy team leads efforts to shape global policy, advocating for free enterprise, competitive markets, and rules-based trade and investment. The International Division has 80 policy experts and advocates based in our Washington, D.C. headquarters, as well as in Brazil, China, India, and Turkey.

 

Strategic Alliances and Outreach develops and implements programs and initiatives to help the Chamber create new business relationships and partnerships across diverse audiences.

 

The Center for Capital Markets Competitiveness’ (CCMC) mission is to advance America’s global leadership in capital formation by supporting diverse capital markets that are the most fair, transparent, efficient, and innovative in the world.

 

  • Human Resources

Human Resources (HR)’s objective is to develop and implement programs and policies that attract, retain, and continue to develop excellent employees. We are your primary resource for employee benefits, talent development, employee relations, and personnel information.

 

The Government Affairs division is the Chamber’s lobbying team headquartered in Washington with regional offices across the country. We champion the Chamber’s pro-business priorities and advocate for America’s free enterprise system on Capitol Hill.
