  • One short essay on a subject relevant to the work of the Court, focusing on the role of the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) (maximum of 750 words, single- spaced, typewritten).

Contract Duration

Interns are required to work full time for a period of six monthsInternship placements will not be extended beyond  this period.

Organisational context

The Office of the Prosecutor (“OTP”) is an independent organ of the International Criminal Court (“ICC”). It is responsible for examining situations under the jurisdiction of the Court where genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes appear to have been committed, and carrying out investigations and prosecutions against the individuals who are allegedly most responsible for those crimes.

The advertised position is situated in the Office of the Prosecutor. It forms part of the Unified Team that is working on alleged crimes committed in Ukraine that fall within the jurisdiction of the Court. The intern will be responsible for monitoring Ukrainian and Russian media, producing media round-ups and otherwise supporting the Associate Country Expert of the Ukraine Unified Team. The incumbent may also be assigned to support, on a part-time or ad hoc basis, the OTP Public Information Unit (PIU).

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist in media monitoring, analysis, reporting, media logs, and deployment of media responses;

  • Conduct research and draft texts;

  • Assist in the implementation of selected OTP public information tasks (e.g. media monitoring, basic photography and videography, and others)

  • Perform other tasks as required.

Required qualifications

Education:

All candidates must have a degree or be in the final stages of their studies at a recognised university preferably in media / journalism, or political science or law. Candidates are expected to have a very good record of academic performance.

Experience:

Internship placements focus on candidates in the early stages of their professional careers therefore practical work experience is not an essential prerequisite for selection. However, practical  experience that is relevant to the work of the Court will be considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with tools tailored to the monitoring Ukrainian media desirable.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multilingual working environment.

  • Strong teamwork skills (listens, consults and communicates proactively).

  • Excellent digital skills, including computer literacy and the use of social media.

  • Excellent drafting skills in English.

  • Photography and basic photo editing skills desirable.

  • Good analytical and organisational capabilities.

  • Discretion, reliability, intellectual rigour, honesty, creativity, and perseverance.

Knowledge of Languages:

Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, French or English. Working knowledge of the other is desirable. Proficiency in Ukrainian is required. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

Please note that internship and visiting professional placements at the ICC are unfunded. The ICC is not able to provide participants in the Internship and Visiting Professional Programme with any remuneration, nor is it possible to provide reimbursement for expenses incurred prior, during or after the internship or visiting professional placement.
