IOM opened an office in Ireland in 2001. Ireland became a full member government of IOM in 2002. IOM Ireland provides with programming activities in the following areas of migration management: Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration, Resettlement, Family Reunification, Counter-Trafficking, Protection, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS).
Context
Since the inception of IOM in 1951, Movement Operations have been and continue to be a fundamental pillar of the Organization’s work. The organized movement of persons in need of international migration assistance is a primary mandate of the Organization and a cornerstone of IOM’s operations. Movement Operations Units in various IOM Country Offices, coordinated under the Resettlement and Movement Management (RMM) Division in the Department of Mobility Pathways and Inclusion at IOM’s Geneva Headquarters, are responsible for all aspects of travel for migrants and refugees under IOM’s auspices, in accordance with the various framework agreements with resettlement and receiving Governments and partners across the spectrum of the Organization’s programmes.
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Mission and the Head of Unit – Movements, and the direct supervision of the Senior Project Associate, the Project Associate (Resettlement Protection) is responsible for undertaking movements activities, with the following duties and responsibilities.
- Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, including coordination with sending missions for travel documentation, entry/exit visas, medical screening and cultural orientation.
- Assist in the coordination and scheduling of travel bookings with sending missions, airport departure / transit and arrival assistance., distribute travel information to internal and external stakeholders
- Efficiently and effectively manage refugee case files and medical records, including, if assigned, verifying the creation of new case files, the timely and accurate distribution of case files, that all returned files are promptly filed, that the file tracking system is used to keep comprehensive track of files, and that files are scanned and transformed into travel packets as needed.
- Create movement data files, for all individuals/families in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Create / update monitoring tools for information management and data retention, with adherence to data protection rules and regulations.
- Develop and demonstrate an in-depth understanding and proper usage of internal monitoring tools.
- Maintain and monitor the confidentiality and integrity of all relevant paperwork in line with standards of conduct and data protection rules. Alert Project Associate or management of any non-compliance to SOPs or codes of conduct by IOM staff members or partners.
- Act as focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation, involving
extensive liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate
requests, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative
actions, etc. - Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of relevant Movement Operations SOPs and Movements-related systems and databases (including iGATOR, MiMOSA, SAR and Amadeus).
- Demonstrate the ability to remain professional, impartial and unbiased during all interactions with migrants, colleagues and external stakeholders as per IOM Codes of Conduct and instruction on the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Education
- University degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience; or
- Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with five years of relevant experience.
Experience
- Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
- Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
- Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
Skills

- Attention to detail and ability to organize.
Languages
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
