Istanbul FO organizes capacity building activities with diverse local actors such as municipalities, social service centres, mukhtars that contributes to the expansion of protection space for refugees. Istanbul FO is also monitoring the voluntary returns in Istanbul. Moreover, the FO conducts community-based protection activities and involves refugees to its programs.
By undertaking an internship with UNHCR Istanbul FO, the incumbent will have a chance to improve their communication and drafting skills as they will be interacting with partner NGOs and other functional teams across UNHCR on a regular basis under the supervision of the team members.
UNHCR Istanbul Field Office is seeking a dynamic team player, with a strong interest in in UNHCR’s mission to protect and find solutions for forcibly displaced and stateless persons.
The incumbent will be supervised by the Assistant Legal Officer and work closely with both Legal Protection and Field teams.
Duties and responsibilities:
- The incumbent will assist the relevant team members with the referrals, follow-up, and monitoring of individual cases concerning access to registration, detention, and deportation.
- Working under the guidance of the supervisor and the Senior Protection Associate, the intern is expected to assist the team member in updating and tracking the detention and registration databases of the Field Office.
- Media monitoring concerning protection environment in Istanbul FO’s area of responsibility.
- Assisting the team members with preparation of meeting minutes.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum qualifications required:
- In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
- Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
