Background/Context
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
The Communications Team at UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) supports the positioning of women’s empowerment and gender equality as key issues in the region and contributes to establish UN Women role as the global authority in this context. This entails developing and promoting high-quality content, communicating about UN Women’s work through digital and social media and engaging a regional audience online. The Communications Unit seeks to enlist a Junior Social Media and Research Consultant to support the management of ROAP’s social media platforms. The Junior Consultant will assist the Regional Communication Specialist in developing and implementing social media plans, coordinating the development of different online assets, social media videos and social media packages as part of the outreach.
Asia and the Pacific
Through the regional office in Bangkok and several country offices in Asia and the Pacific, UN Women builds on a long history of support to governments and women’s movements. UN Women’s programmes focus on ending violence against women, humanitarian action and disaster risk reduction, women’s economic empowerment, CEDAW and women’s human rights, peace and security, governance, and HIV/AIDS. The Communications team manages media, UN Women’s online platforms including the ROAP website and social media platforms, and supports Country Offices with their communications efforts, building their capacity through diverse channels.
The consultant will be reporting to the Regional Communications Specialist and will be supported by the Programme Assistant of the External Relations unit, who will be the point of contact on the contract and payment issues.
The Junior Social Media Consultant is responsible for supporting the formulation and implementation of digital communications and advocacy strategies to increase the visibility and awareness of UN Women with partners, the media and the public.
