The tool will aid in the development of hydraulic motor designs as part of a future-proofing strategy.Based at Rotary Power, South Shields you will lead the Mechanical Structures aspect of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership project. The project will focus on computational structural and fluid dynamic analysis to identify operational conditions ensuring optimal levels of lubrication and structural performances to enhance motor assembly longevity.The Mechanical Structures Associate will be responsible for the physical/mechanical modelling and experimental element of the project. Working closely with the project team and a second Associate specialising in CFD simulations to achieve the projects objectives. You will be responsible for development of parametric physical/ kinematic models, FE models and simulations, development of experimental models as well as planning/design test rigs for simulation results verification, data acquisition and instrumentation system development and finally data analysis and presentation.Candidates should have a MSc or PhD in Structural Mechanics, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.Benefits:

The KTP Associate will be an employee of Newcastle University but will spend most of their working time at the company’s premises at Rotary Power Simonside East Industrial Park, 1 Waldridge Way, South Shields NE34 9PZ and when required at Newcastle University.   • On boarding, familiarisation with the company and university
  • Creation of a detailed plan and complete a mini project
  • Disseminate and embed the knowledge within Rotary Power to various stakeholders throughout the KTP via reports, presentations, group discussions, workshops and staff training
  • Present findings to stakeholders prepare and complete full documentation
  • Reporting weekly team updates to assure project exposure and aid embedding in the wider team
  • Prepare publications, case studies and attend conferences

The PersonKnowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Experience in developing structural mathematic models ideally for machine elements (cams, shafts, bearing etc.)
  • Experience in FE modelling
  • Proficiency in 3D design software, preferred SolidWorks
  • Experience in programming and software development in a relevant field

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Structural Mechanics, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
