We believe that a strong workforce starts with strong relationships, and we’re looking for a Labour Relations Specialist to help us maintain and enhance those relationships across our operations.OVERVIEWAs a Labour Relations Specialist at BURNCO, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping a positive and productive work environment. You will be a trusted advisor to management, ensuring smooth labour relations, supporting collective bargaining, and fostering collaborative engagement with unions and employees. Your expertise in union certification, collective bargaining, and grievance resolution will be instrumental in keeping our teams engaged and operations running smoothly.WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Be the go-to expert: Advise leadership on the interpretation and application of collective agreements, labour legislation, and policies.
  • Lead negotiations: Support and participate in collective bargaining, contract negotiations, and labour discussions to secure fair and sustainable agreements.
  • Resolve workplace issues: Manage grievances, mediate disputes, and facilitate resolutions that align with BURNCO’s values and operational goals.
  • Foster positive relationships: Collaborate with union representatives and internal stakeholders to ensure open and effective communication.
  • Ensure compliance: Stay ahead of changes in labour laws and industry best practices to keep BURNCO compliant and proactive in its labour relations approach.
  • Train and educate: Develop and deliver training for managers and employees on collective agreements, labour laws, and workplace conflict resolution.
  • Conduct investigations: Support workplace investigations related to employee relations and labour concerns, ensuring fairness and due process.

WHAT WE WOULD LIKE FROM YOUEducation & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations, Human Resources, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certificate in Labour Relations is highly desirable.
  • CPHR designation would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 8 – 10 years of labour relations experience in a unionized environment, preferably in the construction, manufacturing, or industrial sectors.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian labour laws, employment standards, and collective bargaining processes.
  • Proven ability to manage contract negotiations and dispute resolution effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills with a solution-driven mindset.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic industry with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in HR systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and research tools related to labour law and compliance.

Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of labour and employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strategic problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel to various locations within Canada.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.

Work Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed at BURNCO’s corporate office, with occasional visits to quarries, plants, and job sites as required.
