The Department of Physics at the University of Bath is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Experimental Photonics.Applications in all areas of existing strength within Experimental Photonics are invited; those in the area of overlap between photonics and bio/nano-science, or in the areas of optical fibre technology and/or ultrafast lasers are particularly welcome.The Lecturer will contribute to and expand the capabilities of the department in this research area, and be a full member of the Department.About the role:You will become a part of the vibrant community of researchers in optics and photonics within the Department.Research programmes revolve around collaboration, shared equipment and facilities, and shared learning, streamlining the process of getting new research programmes off the ground.The role is to establish an independent research activity, in an area aligned with both University and funder priorities.Experimental Photonics is already an important element of several existing programmes but this position will broaden that interest.The Lecturer will contribute to and expand the capabilities of the department in this research area, and be a full member of the Department.This role offers an ambitious and excellent candidate the chance to advance their career in a supportive and dynamic environment.About us:The University of Bath is a leading research-intensive University.In the recent REF2021 assessment, 96% of the Department’s submitted research activity was judged world-leading or internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance, and rigour.The Department consists of over 40 academic staff with over 80 postdoctoral researchers & PhD students, and graduates approximately 130 undergraduate students each year.Both the Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment.The Department aims to become both more diverse and more inclusive, and candidates who can contribute in that regard are particularly encouraged to apply.The University is in the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath conveniently located in the beautiful West Country of England.The City has outstanding architecture, excellent restaurants and a very good choice of schools.
