Lecturer – Dual Credit Political Science

Qualifications

The Department of Secondary Partnerships & Initiatives is seeking faculty for a full-time Lecturer position in political science. This is a non-tenure-track position that will begin in Fall 2024. The selected candidate will teach five dual credit courses, chiefly in lower-level political science, each semester. Candidates should have experience teaching high school, as well as developmental and other writing courses at post-secondary institutions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches undergraduate-level political science courses;
  • Works closely with program and departmental administration;
  • Prepares syllabi and updates course materials;
  • Participates in curriculum development and assessment;
  • Delivers instruction to high school students, both online and in person;
  • Travels to local school districts to teach dual credit;
  • Evaluates dual credit instructors each semester in the subject area;
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental programs;
  • Maintains knowledge and stay abreast of current trends in learning with research, best practices in teaching, and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching.
  • Plan and create lectures, in-class discussions, and assignments.
  • Assess grades for students based on participation, performance in class, assignments, and examinations.
  • Assist/mentor students as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the field is required to teach undergraduate courses OR a terminal degree in the field of study or closely related is required to teach graduate courses.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of teaching experience.
  • Knowledge / Skills: Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: Recommended TEA teacher’s certification.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to travel.
  • Other Requirements: Flexible schedule.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • High school teaching experience.
  • College or University teaching experience.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence.
