Lecturer, First-Year Engineering ProgramApplications are invited from qualified individuals for a full time Without Term Lecturer position within the College of Engineering’s School of Professional Development (SoPD).The successful candidate will become a key member of the First Year Engineering instructor team that coordinates and delivers the engineering course material within the first year curriculum. The candidate will be appointed primarily in the SoPD and hold a joint secondary appointment within an engineering department in the College.About the College and First-Year Engineering Program
The College of Engineering has undertaken a complete redesign of its first-year program, incorporating research-informed best practices in course design, teaching and learning methods, approaches to student assessment, and experiential learning opportunities. Launched in the fall of 2021, this innovative program has positioned the College at the forefront of engineering education in Canada, making the University of Saskatchewan a destination of choice for excellent students from across Canada, and beyond.The new curriculum has a modular structure, featuring a high degree of alignment in the sequencing and presentation of materials, both across courses and over the academic year. In addition, a consistent assessment strategy has been implemented within courses based on the competency-based model, allowing students some opportunity to revisit and retest material that they have yet to master. Since the quality of the student experience forms the cornerstone of the program, the ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated record of teaching excellence, as well as a commitment to teaching and learning innovation.The successful candidate will be expected to work with other members of the First Year and SoPD teams to contribute to a supportive atmosphere. The successful candidate will develop courses and course materials, teach First Year Engineering courses, and take part in the administration of the First Year program (including course coordination, software management, program evaluation, TA/RA supervision, and team coordination).The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Engineering, as well as an advanced degree in a relevant field, and ideally be registered as a professional engineer in Canada. If not currently a PEng, the candidate must be eligible to register as a Professional Engineer in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan. We are seeking a candidate who demonstrates the following:
- experience teaching in a post-secondary environment;
- clear evidence of strong teaching and communication skills;
- experience teaching junior courses such as mechanics, design, drawing & sketching, CAD, computer programming, electrical circuits, professional ethics, and process engineering.
- an ability to work effectively in a collaborating team.
Preference will be given to the candidate who has experience with course and curriculum development, inclusion of Indigenous perspectives, coordinating and running labs, teaching enhancement software systems such as Canvas, Crowdmark and Mobius, active learning techniques, and with competencybased assessment.The 2022-23 salary band for a Lecturer is $83,150 to $123,458.
