Lecturer in Advanced Nuclear Reactor Technology

The University welcomes applications from exceptional candidates for a permanent Lectureship within the School of Engineering, in areas relating to Advanced Nuclear Reactor Design and Technology. The successful applicants will be able to drive forwards exciting research and teaching programmes and develop pathways to impact in Advanced Nuclear Reactor Technology, with a particular focus on reactor core nuclear and thermal-hydraulic design.Manchester has long been a leader in Engineering, with historical routes dating back to the Industrial Revolution and the foundation of The Institute of Mechanics in 1824. Today, the taught programmes of Mechanical and Aerospace engineering welcome over 1600 students across the spectrum of courses, and we are a home to over 120 academic and research staff.The School of Engineering at Manchester is a world-leading centre for education in the Mechanical Engineering and other disciplines. Our key research thematic priorities include Net Zero & Environmental Sustainability, Robotics, Autonomous Systems & AI, Digital Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering for Health, and Engineering Materials. These posts are in addition to a number of recent appointments in areas of research targeting rapid and deep decarbonisation across the energy and industrial sectors, underpinning our bold ambition in this field.We will be delighted to hear from academics with expertise in the area of advanced nuclear reactor technology. As well a clearly formed plan to deliver ambitious research objectives we will be seeking those with a demonstrable passion and enthusiasm for teaching design and manufacture at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The lecturer would work alongside colleagues in the nuclear fuel team and would interface with other groups for which reactor core design is an important consideration: notably the nuclear graphite group, the zirconium technology group, and other colleagues within the Dalton Nuclear Institute, Materials Performance Centre, and the Centre for Radiochemistry.At Manchester we are proud to instil Social Responsibility at the core of our research and teaching, and we will invite applicants to consider how their own work would contribute to these goals also.The University actively fosters a culture of inclusion and diversity and seeks to achieve true equality of opportunity for all members of its community.
