DepartmentThe flagship York School of Architecture is one of the University of York’s exciting transformational initiatives. The school’s expertise is interdisciplinary, building on York’s existing research strengths in culture, community, environment, geography, heritage, and social policy to create a school that supports our commitment to public good. We seek to appoint a lecturer to take a role in the development of the academic curriculum.The successful applicant should have extensive teaching and curriculum design experience and a demonstrable record of higher education teaching related to the subject of ecological design and construction, and building technology .We recognise the many benefits of a diverse workforce and are committed to ensuring an inclusive place to work. We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements (e.g. part-time working, job share etc.), with forums and inclusive facilities to support our staff. .The role is available from 1 August 2025.RoleIn this role, you will work with the Head of School, Course Director and director of Research to develop the initial teaching curriculum and associated research. We will be acknowledging the accreditation requirements of the Architects Registration Board and the Royal Institute of British Architects. We will launch the new BA (hons) Architecture course in September 2025 and the role holder will contribute to the delivery of excellent teaching and research within the school. You will be joining an exciting new school with a clear intention to deliver a curriculum that is informed by sustainable and culturally aware architecture to a new generation of architects, that responds to the rich cultural context of the city of York and the University.Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
- To develop an innovative approach to the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum in architecture that aligns to contemporary issues in architecture education and practice, specifically related to Architecture professional course requirements in the areas of sustainability, ecological design and building technology.
- To develop teaching material for a range of teaching activities, including studio-based projects and lecture-based courses and to ensure that the curriculum design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the Department and University.
- To have experience of higher education teaching in construction and building technology in an Architecture school.
- To lead on and/or contribute to the production of research outputs and research outcomes
- To undertake effectively a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities
