We are looking for a Lecturer in Architecture and Design to contribute to the teaching of integrated design and resolution studios and be led by research informed practice with a strong emphasis on sustainable and inclusive futures.We offer several undergraduate Architecture and Design degrees in the School including Parts 1, 2 & 3 RIBA Validated Awards, Interior Architecture and Landscape Architecture. All the programmes enjoy high student satisfaction with an established reputation in the historic Birmingham School of Architecture established in 1908. These posts will principally be responsible for teaching, across BA(Hons) Architecture and/or BA (Hons) Interior Architecture. We encourage applicants with strong experience and research in either discipline.Birmingham School of Architecture and Design is committed to supporting a rich diverse culture that reflects our local communities and student body. Therefore, we particularly welcome candidates from black, brown, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds.You will be contributing to the teaching, learning and coordination of the School’s different Architecture programmes across different levels of the undergraduate course, ensuring an excellent student experience through the use of relevant and inspiring learning, teaching, and assessment methods. You will assist with cross School teaching and learning activities such as the CO.LAB live project module, the Experimental Sustainability Studio or Superstudio. You will also provide support and mentoring to individual students through personal tutoring, contribute to the Urban Cultures research cluster, and be involved in recruitment and outreach activities.Applicants will be expected to:

  • Have experience of teaching and assessing student work at undergraduate level (essential)
  • Qualifications in Architecture or another Design subject to at least Degree level (essential)
  • Have published or presented their writing and research publicly (desirable)
  • Excellent and demonstrable design and communication skills (essential
  • Qualifications in Architecture or another Design subject to at least Masters level (desirable)
  • Have an in pursuing a PhD in a relevant area or demonstrate equivalent core knowledge and expertise gained from leading edge practice in industry (desirable)
  • Collaborative and team working skills (essential); an inter- or trans-disciplinary approach is desirable given the range of disciplines in the School
  • Ability to contribute to other areas of the curriculum (essential). An understanding of the nature of contemporary practice is highly desirable. Capability to contribute to other areas such as technical studies, history, theory and cultural contexts, and/or digital representation would also be welcomed
  • Climate literacy and knowledge of sustainable design (essential)
  • Hold a PGCertHE teaching qualification or be accredited via the UK Professional Standards Framework for Higher Education (desirable)
  • Have experience in developing research funding proposals (desirable)
