The Architecture discipline at Queen’s University Belfast, based in the School of Natural and Built Environment, has a very strong reputation for its teaching standards and a growing research profile at both national and international levels. To maintain and further strengthen that position, we are now recruiting a Lecturer in Architecture who will join the highly dedicated team of well-established and early career academics in the discipline. This a full-time, permanent position.The successful applicant will deliver professionally accredited teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, delivering Design, Technology and Professional Skills Modules in the RIBA & ARB accredited Parts I, II & III programmes. They will therefore be professionally qualified and experienced in the design and delivery of synthesised building projects of recognised/evidenced design quality.The role involves contributing to the teaching, assessment, organisation and administration in the School of Natural and Built Environment. This will consist of assisting with coordination and delivery of modules, participating in a range of teaching activities including the ongoing improvement of curriculum content, the enhancement of student employability and the enriching of the overall student experience through interdisciplinary projects.The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the existing research profile of the School by actively contributing to the knowledge and impact in the field of Architecture, and related areas. This will involve securing external funding to undertake an independent programme of research, publishing in leading peer-reviewed journals, supervising PhDs and generating research impact and public engagement through knowledge exchange activity.About the person:The successful candidate will be professionally qualified, experienced in the design and delivery of synthesised building projects of recognised/evidenced design quality, keenly alert to the pace of change within architectural/design practice and industry, and critically aware of the ethical imperative to respond urgently and creatively to the climate crisis. They will also be expected to have the knowledge of how to run contracts, and provide compliant designs that regulate and where appropriate, exceed performance minimums.The successful candidate will:

  • Be qualified to at least master’s level in a relevant design-based professional discipline such as architecture,buildings structure with architecture, etc.
  • Have a significant record of evidenced achievement in respect of the quality of their designed outputs.
  • Hold membership (ARB/RIBA Part 3 or equivalent) or eligibility for membership of a relevant professionalinstitute
  • Be able to evidence of multiple high-quality design outputs (built projects) involving a high level oftechnological resolution and integration gained in professional practice through the lens of environmental performance and regulation.
  • Be experienced in the delivery of high-quality teaching and contribution to architectural design and technologyprogrammes, and other related areas and their attendant coordination.
  • Provide a history, commensurate with career stage, of applying for and obtaining peer reviewed researchincome from research councils and other relevant funding bodies.
  • Hold or be in a position to undertake a PhD in Architecture (traditional, by design, or practice-based) or arelated discipline. In essence we seek a candidate who articulates a research trajectory.
  • Have the ability to communicate complex information effectively with a high level of graphic and designawareness and ability.
