Are you an experienced Biosciences professional with the ability to contribute to research-led teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels? Are you committed to excellence in teaching? If so, this exciting opportunity may be ideal.The School of Biosciences at the University of Kent is looking to appoint an exceptional and committed individual with significant experience in the field of Biomedical Science. The successful applicant will contribute to the teaching delivery of Biomedical Science and/or immunology, though the candidate will also have sufficient expertise in molecular and/or cellular biology that can be applied in other areas of teaching across our undergraduate courses. They will provide innovative and engaging teaching to students on programmes in Biology, Biomedical Science, and Biochemistry alongside, scholarship and/or professional practice in their area of specialism.You will prepare and deliver lectures, practical classes, small-group teaching, undergraduate and taught postgraduate research project supervision and student support, and will have responsibility for setting and marking assessments and exams. The role will be particularly suitable for a scientist with postdoctoral research experience as well as teaching experience, who seeks to develop a stimulating career in university-level education and associated scholarship activity.As Lecturer in Biomedical Science you can expect to be involved in:

  • Develop and deliver high quality teaching as a member of the Biosciences teaching team within a suite of well-established programmes of study
  • Construct and supervise final year BSc and MSc student research projects.
  • Teach in a variety of settings from small group sessions to large lectures and practical classes.
  • Challenge thinking, foster debate and develop the ability of students to engage in critical discourse and rational thinking.
  • Select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback.

What will you bring to the role?

  • A First degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area
  • A PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Possess sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge to deliver and excellent standard of classroom and practical teaching in molecular and cellular and animal biology at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Ability to develop familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning
