About usThe department of Chemistry is seeking to recruit 2 enthusiastic and dedicated Lecturers in Chemistry education to support the design and delivery of programmes within Chemistry and a new interdisciplinary Natural Sciences programme. Both roles will have a focus on overseeing the development and continuous support of laboratory-based modules with a focus on green and automated chemistry techniques that prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century.Our contemporary Chemistry Department, based in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences, provides an exciting place to explore the boundaries of the subject. The Department champions the discipline of Chemistry across King’s, leading with its own research and teaching, and encourages close interdisciplinary collaborations.Our PGT and UG programmes have been designed to impart a rigorous theoretical and experimental understanding of chemistry, delivered within the context of biomedical applications. We strive to provide students with a thorough chemical education plus a perspective on, and experience of, diverse practical applications of chemistry that lays down a basis for a flexible, interesting career, particularly at the interface of chemistry and biomedicine.To obtain further information about our Department,About the roleThe post holder will be expected to apply principles of green and sustainable chemistry methods to take a leading role in the redesign and delivery of a broader, innovative Chemistry and Natural Sciences laboratory curriculum.This will include responsibility for the development and introduction of automated robotic laboratory techniques, and an increase in computational chemistry labs plus associated lectures, workshops and assessment to support these. Thereby providing a framework for building and maintaining an innovative and cutting-edge laboratory course and equipping students with key skills sought in industry and academia.The role requires a passionate educator who will inspire student engagement and contribute to improving the student experience through curriculum design and delivery. As part of the chemistry education academic group, you would be expected to engage in discipline-based education research and have a demonstratable interest in new and innovative teaching methods and support other academics in the department to incorporate these into their own teaching.The appointee will also provide long-term support for the design, integration, and harmonisation of modules within the Chemistry and interdisciplinary Natural Sciences curricula.Candidates are expected to have a PhD in Chemistry with experience delivering teaching at undergraduate level.This is a full time post, and you will be offered an indefinite contractAbout youTo be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:Essential criteria1. PhD qualified in Chemistry with relevant expertise in green and/or automated chemistry techniques2. Experience and knowledge of teaching methods used in undergraduate laboratory settings, including a culture of safety and responsibility in the lab3. Demonstrate appropriate subject knowledge, enabling them to perform teaching duties as required4. Experience and knowledge of challenges within education sector and up-to-date teaching methods to address these5. Interest in developing new teaching approaches including practicals integrated across subdisciplines and using virtual and computational methods6. Experience in assessment and marking student work7. Commitment to fostering an inclusive teaching environment8. Demonstratable engagement in education research or scholarshipDesirable criteria1. Formal teaching qualification (e.g. AFHEA)2.
