Permanent – Full timeAt the University of Southampton’s School of Ocean and Earth Science, we are pursuing a major investment initiative, seeking to build on our international research profile and research-led education programmes to confront the most pressing scientific and societal challenges in the natural environment.We invite applications from individuals who are pursuing outstanding research questions across the following: modelling the response of ice sheets or the hydrological cycle to climate forcing; climate interconnections between the atmosphere and terrestrial, marine or cryosphere environments; paleoclimate perspectives on climate dynamics and natural variability; detection and prediction of climate hazards and ecological change.We seek candidates who have an international profile that brings exciting new dimensions to the thriving research programs offered across the school at the University’s Waterfront Campus, National Oceanography Centre Southampton; home to the Marine Autonomous Robotic Systems fleet, and with strong links to the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute, Sustainability and Resilience Institute, GeoData institute, and world-class supercomputer facilities across the University. We host state of the art facilities in climate science, including extensive clean lab and mass spectrometry suites. Southampton is also home to the UK research vessel fleet and a critical mass of sea-going scientists with a global footprint of research including the polar regions. We encourage applications from scientists who would use existing facilities and help build our facilities in the school and across the university.In SOES, we lead the prestigious NERC INSPIRE Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) and FLOOD Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT), and the EPSRC funded Mathematics for Future Climate CDT.
