Lancaster University Law School has a thriving suite of Law Clinics and a wide-range of clinically-focused teaching modules.  This is an exciting opportunity to join our award-winning team to build upon and develop our successful practical, skills-focused provision.

We are looking to appoint a person who is entitled to practise as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales and who holds a current practising certificate. You must be authorised to give legal advice to members of the public. You will supervise the work of the students, including setting and marking the assessments of those students who participate in the Law Clinic and its related teaching modules.   You will also be required to supervise letters of advice to clients.  We advise in a wide range of legal areas, but the ability to supervise students working on advising clients on matters relating to wills and/or landlord and tenant issues would be desirable.  The holder of the post will be asked to take up a key role in the School relating to maintaining and developing contacts with alumni.

This post is offered on a Teaching and Engagement basis, allowing for rich career development opportunities both through the running and expansion of our clinics and through the facilitation of skills-focused practical teaching and learning.   It is also expected that the successful candidate will, with mentoring support from the School, pursue an individual programme of scholarship with plans to engage in the development of knowledge relating to the application of law in a realistic learning environment.   The Law School has a vibrant teaching, engagement and research culture.  We are committed to innovation and excellence in all that we do. We have developed a series of practical, skills-focused modules that has seen us ranked #1 in the Times Good University Guide for employability

Lancaster University Law School has a collegiate and supportive environment that combines the disciplines of Law and Criminology.  Having undergone a period of expansion, the School is looking to expand its activities even further.   The Law School is consistently ranked in the top 20 in the UK league tables and is currently placed 55th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.  Lancaster Law School’s Clinics recently won the Faculty Outstanding Contribution to Engagement Award.

You will contribute to the School’s modules as required and you will also take on administrative responsibilities and/or leadership roles as requested by the Head of School. You will be fully supported in all you do, with a tailored programme of staff mentoring and comprehensive staff development opportunities.

Please indicate by uploading a statement to the job application portal whether you are applying to the role at Grade 7 or Grade 8.
