Job description

We are looking for an innovative, energetic and committed Lecturer in Creative Writing with research and practical expertise in digital writing, narrative design, and/or storytelling (as it may be employed in the various literary forms). Knowledge and experience working with AI along with experience or knowledge of script/screenwriting and narrative design for game or digital platforms is desirable.You will teach in these specialist areas as well as across the University’s undergraduate and postgraduate English and Creative Writing curriculum, with an expectation that candidates would be able to teach across forms (fiction, poetry, game-writing, screenwriting, creative non-fiction etc), especially at UG level.You will be able to contribute to the department’s research culture and to be able to evidence a track record and research trajectory (appropriate to career stage). You will need to demonstrate that you have excellent interpersonal skills and will work effectively both independently and as part of a team with colleagues, students, and internal, and external associates.Based within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business, the School of Society and Culture is a progressive team of inspiring teachers and researchers.   • A PhD (or equivalent expertise) in English and/or Creative Writing (or a related subject)
  • Research specialisms relating to digital writing, narrative design, and/or storytelling, as it may be employed in screenwriting, fiction, game design, visual poetics or other literary forms. Candidates should have a strong research trajectory (appropriate to career stage)
  • Ability to teach across the undergraduate and postgraduate English and Creative Writing curriculum
  • Ability and willingness to co-supervise a range of PhD projects on creative writing, especially projects that focus on narrative design and writing for digital output or screen
  • Strong digital skills with an aptitude to teach creatively and to quickly master new learning systems and platforms (including the use of AI tools and emerging technologies)
  • Experience of academic administration responsibilities
  • Excellent academic and pastoral support for students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team and to take initiative
