About usUCL Mechanical Engineering has been pioneering engineering education for over 170 years. We have 45 academic staff across four main research areas: Biomechanical, Energy and Environment, Marine and Materials, and Structures and Manufacturing.We are seeking a Lecturer (equivalent to a U.S. tenure-track Assistant Professor) in Data-driven Biomechanical Modelling. You will lead interdisciplinary research and teaching, guiding the department to new academic heights. Our facilities include high-quality research labs and top-tier computational biomechanical analysis tools. We engage strongly with medical clinicians and the biomedical industry, including collaborations with UCL, NHS Hospitals, and Biomedical Research Centres.About the roleThe focus of this post is “biomechanical modelling with data science.” Our Biomechanical Engineering group excels in computational modelling, applying new methods to problems from fundamental bioscience to clinical practice. This role aims to integrate conventional mathematical and computational approaches with data-driven methods (statistical, machine learning, etc.), enhancing our department’s expertise. We seek applicants driven by clinical applications and improving our understanding of human biology and physiology.The post holder will work synergistically with other departmental research areas and colleagues, especially those in the UCL Institute of Healthcare Engineering and NIHR Biomedical Research Centres (UCLH, GOSH, Moorfields), focusing on translating scientific developments to patient outcomes.About youWe welcome applications from candidates proficient in:

  • PhD/EngD in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • High-quality research track record, reflected in publications or other research outputs.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a demonstrated link to growing research and teaching in biomechanical modelling and data science.
  • Broad subject background for contributions to UCL teaching programs, particularly in computational modelling and data science.
  • Proven skills in bio-engineering research relevant to the post.
  • Excellent skills in designing and delivering inclusive undergraduate and postgraduate education at an international level.
  • Ability to secure research funding.
  • Ability to supervise PhD students and contribute to collaborative research projects.
