The Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction invites applications for three full-time, lecturer posts in the following areas:

  • Lecturer in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology (MED04658)
  • Lecturer in Embryology/Gamete Biology (MED04659)
  • Lecturer in Reproductive Microbiome Studies (MED04660)

The postholders will be expected to work closely with other academic and research staff within the Division of Reproductive Developmental Biology as well as across the wider Department and Faculty. We seek applicants with a strong research interest in either pregnancy, miscarriage or preterm birth, or embryology and gamete biology, with an emerging research programme.These posts have been generously funded by the Genesis Research Trust which is a charity chaired by Professor Lord Robert Winston, and which originally raised funds to build the IRDB building on the Hammersmith Campus which opened in 1999. As part of a 25-year anniversary initiative the charity are funding these posts to strengthen academic activity within IRDB.Duties and responsibilitiesThe successful candidates will work in a vibrant environment and will be expected to undertake undergraduate and graduate teaching responsibilities in this broad area, with opportunities for leadership roles within education. The postholders are expected to make a significant contribution to the research in prediction prevention and management of miscarriage and preterm birth, particularly in relation to the current March of Dimes European Preterm Birth Research Centre programme of work and the Pregnancy and Prematurity Imperial NIHR BRC theme. The Lecturer in Embryology and Gamete Biology is expected to contribute to the research programmes in this field and strengthen interactions with LMS and the Trust IVF unit.It is expected that the postholders will be able to demonstrate a strong contribution to research and teaching, with a growing national presence in their respective field.Essential requirements

  • The successful candidate will be expected to be able to demonstrate the following key requirements:
  • PhD in related field or equivalent
  • High level analytical capacity
  • Evidence of a growing national reputation and expertise in the field of bioinformatics and systems biology, reproductive microbiome studies, or embryology and gamete biology
