The Department of Gerontology are seeking to appoint Lecturers in Gerontology on a full-time fixed term basis. You will have knowledge and understanding of Gerontology, some experience in teaching and the ability to teach in the field of ageing and quantitative research methods (eg; statistics using SPSS, STATA) or mixed research methods (eg; statistics using SPSS, STATA and use of NVivo).
You are also expected to have a background in one of the following areas: (i) ageing and social policy or sociology; or (ii) ageing and sub-Saharan Africa, or (iii) ageing and economics or business studies.
You will work in the Department of Gerontology, situated in the School of Economic Social and Political Science, within the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Faculty brings together a unique range of disciplines and is committed to tackling the world’s biggest challenges through interdisciplinary research.
You will contribute to the postgraduate teaching programmes, enhance the research profile of the Department and the Centre for Research on Ageing, and bring a proven record of scholarship. You will be expected to teach on the MSc in Gerontology, MSc in Gerontology (Research) and MSc Global Ageing and Policy, (remotely and on campus) and supervise and support MSc students. You will also have the opportunity to design new and innovative modules for the undergraduate programmes, and also link research interests to teaching areas.
You will have a PhD (awarded or near completion) in Gerontology or in a discipline closely related to the study of ageing (e.g. Demography, Social Policy, Sociology, Economics, Business Studies, Social Statistics, Psychology, Geography) and have relevant teaching and administrative experience. We would expect the successful applicants to have a background in ageing and the ability to strengthen existing expertise in this area and contribute to curriculum development and the teaching of students in receipt of Commonwealth Scholarships.
You will also engage in high quality research and publication and have opportunities to collaborate in existing major research council funded programmes within the Centre for Research on Ageing, where appropriate.
The posts are tenable from 1st September 2023.
