Lecturer in Health Sciences – Child and Adolescent Health

The School of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton is offering a unique opportunity to join the as a Lecturer in Health Sciences to undertake research, education, and enterprise activities.The (co-led by Professors Anne-Sophie Darlington & Mary Barker) investigates and works to improve children and young people’s physical and mental health and quality of life, to ensure healthy futures for young people and future generations.There are two main foci of our research. One is to work with children and adolescents with a life-threatening physical condition, such as cancer. We work on understanding, measuring, and improving quality of life; and exploring the needs of children, young people and their families at the end of life. Another focus in our group is on understanding and improving health behaviours of children and young people. This work aims to engage children and young people in improving their sense of agency and well-being, to benefit their health in general but their diets and physical activity habits more specifically, using participatory approaches and promoting social activism.The post will be a balanced role whereby the successful applicant will be expected to engage and lead education activities associated with the School of Health Science’s portfolio of undergraduate and post-graduate programmes. This may include contributions to our pre-registration BSc (hons) programmes such as mental health and child nursing, or post-graduate programmes such as Professional Practice, Leadership & Management and Advanced Clinical Practice. You will join colleagues in the school that deliver world class education in a dedicated health sciences facility and be able to access training and support.The post is offered on a permanent basis, with a proposed start date of 1st November 2024.The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, with an emerging track record of research, enterprise, & education in health and/or social sciences, and they will meet the following person specifications:
