About usThe School of Security Studies at King’s College London is dedicated to the understanding of security issues in an increasingly complex and uncertain world. Harnessing the depth and breadth of expertise across the War Studies and Defence Studies Departments, and the King’s Institute for Applied Security Studies, we are one of the largest multi-disciplinary communities of scholars in the world engaged in the teaching and research of all aspects of conflict, war, security and defence.About the roleThe Department of War Studies seeks to recruit a full time two-year fixed-term Lecturer in Intelligence and Security Studies Education, to support our MA programme in Intelligence and International Security (IIS) and related teaching, other teaching in the department as appropriate, and to undertake high-quality education-related scholarship. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in Intelligence Studies and a proven publication and teaching track record. We are particularly seeking candidates with expertise in, but not limited to, British intelligence, covert action, intelligence and policymaking.The successful candidate will understand and develop a variety of methods to deliver these modules and to assess students learning and provide feedback. The post is offered on the Academic Education Pathway (AEP), providing a specialist contract that focuses on the delivery of education, education-related scholarship, and leadership in education. The role is campus-based and scheduled to begin in academic year 2024/25. The start date will be mutually agreed but no later than 6 January 2025.War Studies is located within the School of Security Studies and the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy.   • Participate in the delivery of teaching activities within the department in accordance with this post description and established departmental practice.
  • Develop appropriate courses and lectures with reference to academic learning objectives.
  • Utilise a variety of educational methods and techniques and provide effective, timely, and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.
  • Undertake high-quality education-related scholarship in the subject area, publish the findings in highly-rated internationally recognised journals, and participate in the major internationally recognised academic networks and conferences;
  • Contribute to the supervision of postgraduate research students;
  • Contribute fully to developing and enhancing the profile of the Department, School, Faculty and College.
  • Participate fully in assessment and examination processes as appropriate.
  • Engage in professional development as appropriate.
  • Accept academic responsibility within the Department and School, involving administrative responsibilities where appropriate.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Head of Department.

About youTo be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:Essential criteria

  • PhD awarded on a relevant topic within Intelligence Studies, Security Studies, War Studies, Politics, History, International Relations or other, related discipline.
  • Experience in teaching across the field of Intelligence and Security studies.
  • Good administrative skills.
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues, including practitioners and visiting fellows.
  • Commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

£44,105 to £61,921 per annum including London Weighting Allowance
