The University of Reading School of Law wishes to appoint an outstanding lecturer in International and Operational Law to enhance our academic faculty. This is an exciting opportunity to join a community with a global outlook and a focus on academic excellence. The successful applicant will take an appropriate role in the School of Law’s ambitious teaching and learning agenda, the School’s executive education efforts, and the wider aspects of the student experience. Successful candidates will be expected to conduct research that enhances the international research reputation of the School (in the latest Research Excellence Framework, we doubled our percentage of 4* outputs, and 99% of our research was judged to be world-leading, internationally excellent, or internationally recognised).You will have:

• A PhD in Law with a focus on an international and operational law topic.
• Practitioner experience in international and operational law, preferably as a military legal adviser to operations.
• Established international connections in the field of international and operational law.
• A record of research outputs appropriate to stage of the career.
• Well-developed 5-year research plan.
• An ability to conduct high-quality (4* and 3* REF) research.
• Specialist research subject knowledge in the international and operational law of military operations,
• Experience teaching law (or an equivalent discipline) at the University level.
• Effective pedagogical and academic skills in teaching and tutoring.
• An ability to teach UG & PG students in international law and military law.
• An ability to teach at least one UG core module.
• An ability to solicit, participate in, manage, and further develop executive education programs for government departments, including for members of the armed forces.
• Experience in pastoral role.
• Effective administration skills.
• Ability to lead curriculum development and/or student experience initiatives.
• Experience in academic administration or wider contributions to academic life.
• A willingness to play a significant role in the everyday life of the Law School.
• The ability to work effectively and flexibly in a team, including working to deadlines and maintaining appropriate documentation.
• Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
