Job description

The Department of European and International Studies is recruiting a fixed-term Lecturer in International Political Economy Education. The post is open in terms of theoretical and methodological approach or research topic within the field of International Political Economy. The preferred geographical focus is Europe. The post holder is expected to contribute to the delivery of the BAs in European Politics and European Studies and the MAs in International Political Economy and European Studies, and the BA in International Relations to which the department contributes. The post holder will contribute to research-led teaching at UG and PGT levels, contribute to advancing the department’s research culture, and work well with others in the department and across the School and Faculty.

This post will be offered on a full-time, fixed term contract for 2 years from 1 September 2023.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of innovative teaching activities within the department, particularly the BA European Politics, BA European Studies, MA International Political Economy and MA European Studies, as well as the BA International Relations to which the department contributes.
  • Contribute fully to developing and enhancing the research profile of the Department, School and College.
  • Supervise and train postgraduate students to ensure their effective development.
  • Act as personal tutor to students.
  • Participate fully in assessment and examination process as appropriate using a variety of methods and techniques and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their leaning.
  • Participate in and develop internal and external networks.
  • Conduct individual or collaborative research projects.
  • Contribute to departmental, School, Faculty and University administrative duties.

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1.       PhD and first degree in a relevant subject (PhD submitted or completed by time of application)

2.       Specialism in any area of International Political Economy

3.       Geographical focus on Europe

4.       Clear potential for excellent academic publications record

5.       Good presentational and communicative skills

6.       Good organisational and administrative skills

7.       Ability to supervise student research at BA and MA  levels

8.       Ability to provide support and guidance in the supervision and tutoring of Undergraduate and Postgraduate students
