About usUCL Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS) seeks to appoint one Lecturer in Medicine, Health and Society to undertake teaching, research and related academic support duties.STS is a department with growing student numbers, where we interpret science, technology and medicine in relation to society and culture broadly. Areas that we are interested in include but are not restricted to: history of science and medicine; philosophy of science and medicine; science and health communication; science, technology, medicine and social justice/equity; emerging technologies; science, technology, medicine and the Global South; science policy; sociology of science; science education; engagement with science; research methods (from a broad range of theoretical and methodological frameworks); science, medicine and public cultures.About the roleThe postholder will be expected to develop a research programme in areas relevant to Science and Technology Studies, with a particular focus on health- and medicine-related subjects. For the purposes of this position, health and medicine may be construed liberally to include, but not be limited to, medical anthropology, clinical practices, biomedical research, global and public health, medical data science, or psychological and behavioural specialities, all approached from an STS perspective. Applications from scholars with a focus on the Global South are especially welcome. This is a 100% FTE, open-ended appointment, starting on 1st September 2025.The main duties of the post will involve research (including grant applications where necessary), teaching and administration. The successful candidate can expect to contribute to teaching modules already available as part of the departmental catalogue, and to develop new modules of their own design. They will have experience of carrying out research within these fields and in delivering teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.Applicants should hold a PhD in an appropriate academic field. If not degree-holding, applicants should otherwise show significant professional development in the area of the subject to be taught.Applicants must also demonstrate a commitment to working harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds.
