The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester invites applications for a full-time Teaching and Scholarship lectureship in Modern European History, tenable for three years, starting from 1 September 2024.The appointment will be for a post in modern European history, with an emphasis on modern French economic history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. We are interested in applications from those specialising in any aspect of modern French economic history of this period, and encourage applications from those with a proven track-record in innovative and inclusive teaching, learning and assessment. The successful candidate will contribute to core courses on capitalism, a level 3 module, ‘Ceaseless Revolution: France and the Social Republic, 1781-1871’, and other relevant teaching as assigned. The person appointed will teach on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the department, and supervise independent projects and dissertations. The post holder will also undertake teaching related administrative responsibilities within the Department. We are a highly successful Department ranked 5th in REF 2021 (GPA 3.5) with a strong record of attracting external research funding.
