The IoPPN is a Faculty of King’s College London and the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease. It produces more highly cited outputs (top 1% citations) on psychiatry and mental health than any other centre (SciVal 2021), and on this metric has risen from 16th (2014) to 4th (2021) in the world for highly cited neuroscience outputs. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF), 90% of research at the IoPPN was deemed ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ (3\* and 4\*). The IoPPN’s greatest strength is the interdisciplinary nature of both its research strategy and educational activities, providing unique opportunities for students and staff.About the roleThis is an exciting opportunity for two Lecturers to join the newly established BSc in Neuroscience and Psychology and become part of a thriving academic community at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London. The IoPPN currently runs two very successful BSc programmes in Psychology and in Neuroscience and Psychology, both accredited by the British Psychological Society.We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated colleagues who can make a distinctive contribution to research-led education. You should have excellent teaching and communication skills, be able to inspire and inform students, and be committed to excellence in student experience.We are particularly interested in recruiting colleagues with a background in Psychology and Neuroscience who have developed expertise in theoretical/computational neuroscience, computational psychiatry, cognitive/systems/clinical neuroscience or developmental/individual differences psychology.The post-holders will play a role in the development and delivery of an innovative curriculum that spans and integrates Neuroscience and Psychology. A key focus of the programme is to equip our UG students with the knowledge and skills, including coding, required for the transparent and reproducible application of quantitative data analysis in neuroscience and psychology.The posts will sit within the Department of Neuroimaging at the Denmark Hill campus at the IoPPN and the postholders will be working closely with colleagues across other Departments, including the Department of Psychology. King’s also welcomes hybrid working, and many academic staff choose to work from home for up to three days a week when not required to be on campus for teaching or other meetings.The appointment will be made at Lecturer level either on the Education (60%) & Research (40%) (E&R) or on the Academic Education Pathway (AEP). In the E&R pathway, the postholder is expected to demonstrate engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile, as evidenced by a track record of publications including publications meeting a Research Excellence Framework (REF) standard of 3* or higher, a clear publication plan, and/or previous success in research funding applications. In the AEP the primary contribution is to education (80% of role) and secondary contribution to scholarship which is primarily education-focused (20%). The AEP contract is focused on the delivery of education, education-related scholarship, and leadership in education. The following expectations are associated with the AEP: teaching, supervision, student support, educational leadership and innovation, education-related research and administration. Promotion is possible throughout the Academic Education Pathway, up to the level of Professor (Education).Both posts will be offered on a full-time (35 hours per week), indefinite contracts.About youTo be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:Essential criteria * First degree in Psychology (2:1 or above) and PhD in Psychology or Neuroscience.
Desirable criteria * Higher Education teaching qualification (e.g. PGCAPHE).
