Salary:£42,632 – £47,874 (Grade J) or£49,250 – £55,295 (Grade K) per annum depending on experienceThe roleThe School of Physics is seeking to appoint a lecturer to support the taught and research programme of the EPSRC CDT (Centre for Doctoral Training) in Superconductivity. The Superconductivity-CDT is a 4-year training programme for graduate students, involving the Universities of Bristol, Cambridge and Oxford, and leads to a PhD level qualification in the subject area of superconductivity. The first year of the course involves a substantial training element, alongside a research project.What will you be doing?The role involves delivering and developing taught material, working closely with course teaching teams to ensure content is engaging, dynamic, and aligns with established learning objectives. Initially the focus will be on leading practical / computational training modules, facilitating a student colloquium, organizing group projects, and evaluating coursework. You will also contribute to student skill development through training in writing and presentation and assist in organizing an outreach program that connects our students with local schools.In addition to teaching, you will provide academic and pastoral support to help students navigate their studies and progress within and across institutions. During their first year, students will undertake a brief placement with one of our industrial or international research facility partners; you will play a role in coordinating and implementing these placements.As part of the CDT management team, you will attend and contribute to meetings, acting as a strong liaison with the student body. This role requires a solid understanding of university strategies, structures, policies, and the broader educational context, with a focus on maintaining compliance with academic and ethical standards.While the role is based in Bristol, it includes extended periods of work, approximately six weeks per year, at Oxford and Cambridge universities to support teaching within the CDT. Flexibility and willingness to travel are essential.You should apply ifYou have a PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering or a closely related subject and have a passion for achieving excellence in teaching and supporting students. You should be able to deliver teaching relevant to the programme of the CDT in Superconductivity, including practical training (experimental and/or computational).
